Competitions

Get ready to experience the ultimate blend of virtual precision and real-world adrenaline at the F1TENTH Autonomous Racing Competition at CDC 2024! This year's event will feature not one, but two separate electrifying events (it is possible to participate in each of them separately or in both): the Benchmark Simulation Challenge and the Physical Race.

In the virtual race the teams will develop cutting-edge algorithms to navigate high-speed tracks using digital twins of F1TENTH cars. The simulated showdown will set the stage, with winners announced at the CDC conference in a special session. Shift gears to the physical race at CDC 2024, where teams will unleash their autonomous race cars in a high-stakes, head-to-head battle of speed and strategy. Whether it's virtual or on the physical track, the goal is the same: don’t crash and be the fastest. Start your engines, and may the best algorithms win!

The events at CDC that are related to the benchmark challenge and competition are the following:

Virtual race

Preparations start in October and the virtual race final takes place on December 7th and 8th. The results of the competition will be announced on December 9th. Join our celebration event scheduled for opening day of CDC 2024 (December 16 2024, 18:00-19:00) to relive the nail-biting races, hear the top teams brag on their winning strategies and start your engines for the physical competition.

Physical race

CDC 2024 will feature the 22nd F1tenth Autonomous Grand Prix, an in-person competition where teams bring their own scaled autonomous race cars and develop software to navigate the track. Teams receive a build manual and can use open-source software to get started, while the organizers provide the race setup, track, and infrastructure. The competition begins with a qualification session to determine seeding, followed by head-to-head knockout races, challenging teams to refine their perception, planning, and control algorithms against standardized vehicles on a shared track.

Workshop

In addition, if you are curious to know more about the F1TENTH world, the Workshop on "Opportunities and Challenges with Autonomous Racing", held on December 15th, will provide information and insights on how to start with the F1TENTH racing. This workshop aims to engage the control community in tackling the unique challenges of autonomous racing.
